Rotary Club of Key Biscayne Foundation presents a unique wine event: “THE ULTIMATE TASTING”
In this year’s showdown, five judges will taste through the finest wines produced in the world. This will not be new vs old- this will be every wine for itself! The ultimate variety of wines from both the new and the old world will compete. 21 wine varietals, five judges, two winners.
The evening begins with a tasty Prosecco upon arrival to “season the palate” for the wonderful wines to follow. More than 30 wines will be offered including the wines participating in the competition.
The wines will consist of the following varietals:
WHITES
Rose, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, Pinot Grigio, Albarino, White blend
REDS
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cab Franc, Zinfandel, Syrah, Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Tempranillo, Primitivo, Chianti, Red blend.
Shari Gherman, president of the American Fine Wine Competition & Gala, is our wine director again this year and five noted wine professionals will be judging these exciting wines: Patrick Sullivan, Wine Educator and professional Wine Judge; Wendy Rosano, Sommelier and Certified Specialist of Wine; Roberto Colombi, Sommelier and GM of The Blue in the Waldorf Astoria Boca Raton Resort, Delius Shirley, owner of Ortanique on the Mile in Coral Gables and Jacqueline Coleman, wine columnist for Biscayne Times Newspaper, Let’s Eat Magazine and South Florida Luxury Guide will complete the professional Judging panel.
NEW THIS YEAR
Amber Love Bond, columnist for Media Bites, Eater Miami, TimeOut Magazine Miami, Brickell Living and a few other publications will be joining our professional judges’ team as our official food writer in charge of selecting the best food delicacies of the evening. Additionally, the event will feature a People’s Food Choice award for the “Best of Show”.
Robert Rex, Deerfield Ranch Winery, 2018 Winemaker of the Year, will be hosting a special seminar on “How to Blend the Five Noble Grapes” for a select group of 20 individuals. VIP / RSVP event.
All presented wines have been graciously supplied by Strategic Importers and will be available for sale at the event through The Wine Wave our official wine retailer. The Wine Wave, will coordinate all orders, payment, delivery and pick-up. A variety of food delicacies prepared by several prominent South Florida restaurants are included in the price of admission.
In addition, Rotary’s collaboration continues with The Arc of South Florida. The Arc of South Florida’s members will organize a silent auction and receive part of the proceeds to fund its programming. Auction lots will consist of items, including travel, restaurant vouchers, sports memorabilia, and select goods and services. Rather than each organization holding an independent fundraising event, The Arc of South Florida works together with the Rotary Club of Key Biscayne Foundation to offer attendees a wonderful evening and an opportunity to support charitable efforts in our community.
The proceeds from this event qualify for multiple matching grants. Over the past four years, the Rotary Club of Key Biscayne has successfully obtained matching grants from local Rotary District 6990 and The Rotary International Foundation in Evanston, IL exceeding $400,000 to maximize the charitable impact of this fundraiser.
