DESCRIPTION:IN THE PARK AFTER DARK FIRESIDE CHAT WITH NEIL HURLEY\n\nFun with Lighthouse Lamps\, Burners\, Reflectors and Lenses\n\nJuly 16 @ 6:30pm at the Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage\n\n \n\n\nWe are delighted to welcome back retired Coast Guard Commander Neil Hurley for an informal talk and demonstration of some of the equipment used to light Cape Florida Lighthouse during its 200-year-long history.\n\n\n\nProducing the best light at the least cost made lighting lighthouses an important field of scientific development in the 1800's. Neil will enlighten you with some of the historic "state of the art" equipment and principles used at Cape Florida.\n\n\n\nNeil served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 23 years\, with tours of duty on both a Coast Guard buoy tender servicing lighthouses on the Great Lakes and in the Miami\, Florida District Coast Guard Office responsible for aids to navigation in the southeastern United States.\n\n\n\nHis work grew into a hobby of researching the history of Florida lighthouses and numerous books\, magazine articles and talks.\n\n\n\nHis expertise and passion for lighthouse history is spectacular. Neil is also the project lead who secured funding and organized efforts to replace the windows of Cape Florida Lighthouse.\n\n\n\nHis enthusiasm and support for preserving our historic lighthouse is deeply appreciated.\n\n \nBring your folding chair and a reusable cup!
